Learn why you should design a sustainable business
This course will give you insights into why designing a business model with a sustainable approach will benefit you and the planet. You will learn the basics of business modelling – what it is, how to do it, and the essential role of value. You'll also explore how climate change is impacting business processes, and how to Identify and analyse the risks and opportunities that arise with it. Additionally, in this course, you'll discover the importance of systems thinking, which will allow you to identify stakeholders, foster collaboration, and create value beyond a simple ‘business-customer’ relationship. By applying a systemic approach, you will gain a better understanding of the challenges caused by climate change and the planet’s limited resources.
This is an introductory-level course on how to design sustainable business models. It consists of three modules: Module 1 – Introduction to Business Modelling Topics: What is a business model?; Designing business models; Value and its essential role for business models; Vision, context and innovation. Module 2 – The mpact of Climate Change on Business Topics: Understanding the impact of climate change on business models; Sustainable business models; Risks and opportunities. Module 3 – A Systemic Perspective on Business Models Topics: A systemic perspective on business models; Next steps.   In addition, there is a discussion forum where you can engage with other students taking the course. EIT Climate-KIC strongly encourages you to participate given that it is key for the learning process to share your experience, knowledge and questions and, thus, learn from your peers too. This course also offers a certificate of completion.

In total, there are eight core learning nuggets. Each nugget typically takes 20-25 minutes to complete if you explore the links and resources provided, so to complete the entire course it should take you approximately 3.5 hours. It may take longer if you also choose to complete the workbook activities.

This is an online educational resource. The aim? To provide access to quality, interactive learning materials that offer an introduction to sustainable business modelling. It’s a flexible resource, so you can view as much or as little of the learning content as meets your needs. Oh, did we mention it also works great on tablets and smartphones?
At the heart of this learning resource are three modules containing a number of self-contained ‘learning nuggets’. Module 1 introduces business models and the business modelling process, Module 2 explores the impact of climate change on business models, and Module 3 explains how systems thinking can contribute to the generation of sustainable business models.
This course is aimed primarily at start-ups, but established companies, NGOs, public bodies and trainers/coaches covering business model generation would also find the course beneficial.

This is an introductory-level learning resource. No prior knowledge is assumed and we’ve tried to keep everything as clear and straightforward as possible. If you are over the age of 16, you should have no problems!
