Cost Benefit Analysis is a method that can help decision-makers evaluate adaptation projects and strengthen the basis for making sound investment decisions. Bridging the gap with this online course This online course will show you how to carry out a Cost Benefit Analysis using the Cost Benefit Analysis for Climate Adaptation Tool. If you are a local government or city official, this will help you discover the financial value of your own adaptation project and use this to secure the investment you need.
This course is the final course in the Climate-KIC Cost Benefit Analysis programme. It will provide you with hands-on practice using the Cost Benefit Analysis for Climate Adaptation Tool. You will be able to download a blank version of the Cost Benefit Analysis for Climate Adaptation tool. You will be tutored through a series of online exercises using data from a flood risk case study in Mumbai, India. You will be encouraged to use the tool for your own city's climate adaptation project(s). (Please note - This is the third course in the Cost Benefit Analysis e-learning series and it is recommended to first complete the Cost Benefit Analysis Course 1 and Course 2 (or equivalent in-person training) in order to get the most benefits from Course 3.)

Using the Cost Benefit Analysis for Climate Adaptation Tool for Adaptation Options, which shows how the Cost Benefit Analysis for Climate Adaptation Tool works, step by step, using the real-life example of Odense, Denmark. The Cost Benefit Analysis for Climate Adaptation Tool -Tutorial, which provides an opportunity to practice using the Tool, using data from another real-life example (Mumbai, India).
The course is primarily for local government or city officials who need to identify the costs and benefits of climate adaptation projects. However, it will also be of interest to water utilities staff and consultants working in the urban flooding and climate adaptation fields.
The course is free to access.
You are able to enrol on any of the courses and complete them in any order you like. However, we would recommend starting with Course 1 prior to Courses 2-3 and attending any in-person training on the Cost Benefit Analysis for Climate Adaptation Tool. The courses can also be used to enhance in-person training, for example, the Course 3 - Tutorial can be used as a practice exercise during or post in-person training.
