James Hansen says if we don't act, we will have started a process out of humanity's control.

Do you agree?

Yes, definitely! I have been following the Climate Change topic since 2005 and there are more positive stories and initiatives around today - we just need to scale it up, not enough yet. Great to see that real action has been added to this learning material.

I think that it is in some way a very encouraging thought what James Hansen describes as 'the tragedy of climate change': we can solve it, there is hope - and I am thinking of other additional ways than the one he is proposing. Surely, it is tragic that our political system is as inert as it is, and that for a long time it was inhibiting substantial economic and societal changes in regards to fossil fuels. But still, I think we have a great chance to divest from fossil fuels with new ideas and innovation - not only for the sake of our climate, but also our environment in general, our economies and societies.

Good, short explanation on the difference between weather and climate. Show it to your family and friends. Not everybody reads climate change related news and articles, so it is easy for them to get confused, when we experience unexpectedly colder winters and summers.

I personally think that we are too small to affect the world so much to cause so large increase of temperature and climate change as James Hansen is saying. Scientists of the IEEE are often exposing the graph of CO2 increase in the atmosphere and corresponding climate change, but nobody knows which of the two effects came first. Without taking a position about that, because in case CO2 growth has caused temperature increase, I am not sure about the affection of human production, I am a strong supporter of renewable energy. I believe we should concentrate on their development, mainly to reduce pollution, improve our health especially in cities and reduce impact on nature. But I would not use the catastrophic forecast of James Hansen as a motivation for that, I would use health, generic pollution affecting health and environment and increasing energy demand that fossil fuels cannot meet in the future.

Nature has its own way of balancing everything. The key point is that we have to use everything in moderation. Moderation is the key to success in every part of our life.
We should use limit the extreme usage of fossil fuels and start using other resources for efficient energy. But everything has its side affects. so we should be developing new ways of energy resources more frequently and use each of them moderately.

I agree with James Hansen. I am amazed that he and his fellows predicted climate change so correctly in their research article so many years ago.

i totally agree with him. if we do not act now, then we will have started a process that will eventually spin out of our control, a process that will most likely force the earth to seek out a form of balance.

I think especially in the US, corporatecorporate influence and lobbyism by the oil industry aiming to keep the Statusstatus quo, play a critical role.
